Noah Goldstein, MD - Psychiatry and Psychotherapy
Welcome! I am a board-certified psychiatrist and psychotherapist in private practice in Durham, NC. I specialize in long-term, intensive psychotherapy and combined treatments integrating both medication and therapy. I take a modern psychoanalytic or psychodynamic approach to therapy, which simply means that I am interested in thinking together deeply and nonjudgmentally about your experiences to give you an opportunity to develop greater self-understanding and insight into the difficulties you face, whether these difficulties manifest in your thoughts, feelings, relationships, family dynamics, professional activities, or any number of other areas.
While my practice is grounded in the belief that medication alone often cannot address the deeper conflicts and traumas at the root of mental suffering, I understand that a careful and rational approach to prescribing can support the personal work that is necessary for lasting change and emotional growth. As a psychiatrist, I can help you develop a thoughtful treatment plan if you wish to consider medication options, and as a psychiatrist who is aware of the dangers of polypharmacy and overprescribing, I can also help you safely taper or stop unhelpful medications when appropriate.
I welcome patients of any race, nationality, gender, sexuality, and spiritual tradition; I take a respectful, affirming, and curious stance with regard to the various aspects of identity. I mainly see patients aged 18-65, however I may be able to accommodate adolescent patients or older adults on a case-by-case basis. I have special experience working with graduate students and professionals in medicine, engineering, law, business, and academia.Â
Please note: I am in the process of transitioning my practice from Durham, NC to Boulder, CO. I will continue to offer in person appointments at my Durham office through June 20, 2025. I can meet virtually with patients in both North Carolina and Colorado, and I will begin seeing patients in person in Boulder starting July 1, 2025.
If you are interested in working together, please feel free to read more about my practice and call or email me to discuss your situation and schedule an appointment.
